Akari was a Makai Priestess and partnered with Eiji Busujima in the Original Series. Her death caused Eiji to turn rogue and free the legendary Horror Eyrith in his mad quest to resurrect her. In Makai Tales, it's been revealed she's a spirit that keeps watch over Eiji.
Personality[]
Very little is known about Akari due to limited observation. She had already passed before the events of The Makai Flower but remains as a watchful spirit to her lover, Eiji Busujima. Akari is a very observational woman and kind to others. When she met Raiga when he was little, she helped healed his wound and expressed concern for him when Raiga chose to become a knight. When she became terminally ill, Eiji would become desperate to find a means to save her. Despite suffering in pain and bed ridden, she would spend her final days trying to comfort Eiji before she died. Overall, Akari was a kind and loving person that left an impression on those that have met her.
History[]
Early Days & Death[]
The daughter of a Makai Knight, Akari trained to become a priestess and lead a quiet life. Little is known how she met Eiji, but they became a romantic couple. Because of the dangerous nature of a knight's life, she worries about Eiji but can only wait for him to come back home. When Raiga Saejima was ten years old, Akari encountered Raiga training and helped heal his wound. She deduced that the boy's father was also a knight but Raiga mentions he's not present anymore (suggesting he's dead). Akari related to Raiga as she told him she also lost her father.
Raiga carried a bell charm on him and it had a unique ring that Akari liked. Upon their next encounter, Raiga decided to see Akari one last time before setting off on his journey to become a knight. Worried for his life, she expressed words of support, telling him to don't die. Raiga was confused over her concern, it was then Akari admitted she's worried for Eiji's own dangerous journey. To help cheer her, Raiga gifted Akari with his bell charm before parting ways. Akari tells Raiga will become a kind knight. When Eiji returned to Akari, she would tell Eiji about her experience with Raiga. Eiji was curious why Akari would think he would become a kind knight, she reasoned Raiga had the same eyes as Eiji.
Eiji is about to embark on a new and dangerous mission, Akari gave Eiji Raiga's charm to him for him to enjoy. It was then Akari fainted, revealing she was dying from a terminal illness. Desperate to save Akari, Eiji brought forth Mayuri (still in stasis) to Akari. He tells Akari that Mayuri will contain her soul and they'll be together again; Akari tells Eiji to give up on her. Unwilling to let Akari die, he's convinced Akari will only go to sleep and awaken again. While in the middle of preparing the soul transferring spell, Akari smiles and assures Eiji that she'll always be with her and dies. Because she died before her soul could transfer into Mayuri's container, the ritual failed. Upon hearing memories of Akari through Mayuri, Eiji is convinced the transfer worked and would jumpstart the events in The Makai Flower.
The Makai Flower[]
Shadow Knight Eiji Busujima lost his lover, Priestess Akari, and sought a means to bring her back. After learning the legendary Horror Eyrith can clone bodies of the dead, he concocted a scheme in which he'll store Akari's soul within Mayuri's container, keeping her on the mortal realm while he unleash Eyrith to complete his plans. He intends to unlock Mayuri's container and have Akari's soul bond into her newly cloned body from Eyrith and the two would be back together again; things would not go as planned.
After Eiji released Eyrith and the Ady Slab Horrors, he would continue operations between the senate and shadow knights. He took advantage of his position to monitor the situation. When Raiga and his team managed to chase down the last horror, Eiji managed to take the horror and kidnap Mayuri. Eiji managed to release Eyrith from the horror and the two struck a deal. Eyrith already knew Eiji wanted something from her and he provided a locket of Akari's hair as genetic material. Eyrith quickly absorbed Akari's hair and made an adult clone of her in mere seconds. The horror assured that when she blooms, Akari will be brought back to life. However, Raiga and his team intervened.
Raiga fought with Eiji while the Eyrith tried to possess Mayuri. It was during this time that Raiga's battle with Eiji finally opened his senses. Desperate to save Mayuri's life, Crow offered his body instead and Eyrith accepted. In control of Crow's body, she appeared before Raiga and Eiji. When Crow became possessed, Eiji fought Eyrith and admitted his wish was a foolish one. Eyrith revealed she's incubating Akari's cloned body and destroyed it, foiling any hopes to resurrect Akari.
Eyrith would use Crow's body to fight both Raiga and Eiji. The horror managed to injure Eiji's shoulder with Crow's sword. While Garo pursued Eyrith, Mayuri helped move Eiji to a safer location to rest. It was then Eiji apologized for placing Akari's soul into her body, but Mayuri made it clear that Akari's soul was never inside of her. Mayrui clarified her vault can't contain human souls and it was then Eiji realized he was on a fool's errand. To comfort Eiji, Mayuri assured Eiji that Akari lives through his heart.
Eyrith managed to fully bloom and started to affect time and space. It was through the combined efforts of Raiga and his allies that Garo managed to defeat the horror. After their victory, Eiji was brought before the Makai Order to answer for his crimes.
Makai Tales[]
In the aftermath of The Makai Flower, Eiji has been imprisoned by the Makai Order in his role of unleashing Eyrith to resurrect Akari. Crow has taken leadership of the Shadow Knights and have been visiting Eiji. It was during one of these visits that Eiji challenged Crow to a duel in the metaphysical world. Eiji knew Crow's kindness was a weakness and Eiji pushed Crow to harden his resolve to do what's necessary. While about to defeat Eiji, Akari's spirit appeared to stop Crow. However, Crow saw through the rouse and slayed them both. Back in reality, Eiji reminded Crow his kindness is both is strength and weakness. Crow still respects Eiji as his mentor and tells him their battle was also a chance to wipe out the darkness in his heart. Eiji believes Crow has become stronger and ask what Akari thinks. Akari's spirit, standing beside Eiji, happily agrees with that assessment.
