Godou Shirahane (白羽ゴドウ, Shirahane Godō) is the father to Souma Shirahane and Makai Knight in the events of Heir to Steel Armor within the Ryūga-verse. He was Zango the Light Slash Knight (光斬騎士 ザンゴ, Kouzen Kishi Zango) and master swordsman to the Flash Sword Dance and Dark Flash Sword Dance technique. Godou died in the line of duty, sacrificing himself and his armor to protect the people of Creacity.

Personality[]

Godou Shirahane is Souma Shirahane's father and was the Makai Knight assigned to Creacity under the title of Zango the Light Slash Knight before he went missing three years prior to the events of Heir to Steel Armor while seeking out Gate of Destruction. Godou is the inventor of the Flash Sword Dance technique, which is a risky but powerful finishing strike that involves drawing darkness into one's sword, purifying it, and unleashing the energy as a wave of light. Before his disappearance, Godou taught Ryūga this technique, impressed by the Golden Knight's mastery over his own inner darkness. Godou hints to Ryūga that he could also potentially perform Dark Flash Sword Dance, which is a similar but opposite technique that instead converts light into darkness, but warns him that it is far more dangerous to use. The title of Zango is said to be near or equal to Garo the Golden Knight in terms of prestige, which fuels Souma's complex towards being a titleless Makai Knight. Godou is eventually found by Souma and Mutsugi frozen in Lost Soul Beast form sealing the Gate of Destruction, having deliberately absorbed dangerous amount of darkness from the Gate to assume such state in order to get close and then prevent it from opening three years prior. Godou's spirit is last seen acknowleding Souma and Ryuga's victory over Forbidden Fruit and Gate of Destruction alongside those of Mutsugi and Igusu.
