Rei sealing fresh Inga from an object

Inga (陰我, "grudge") is a dark energy that brings forth Horrors in all the incarnations of Garo.

Description & Characteristics[]

Inga are the collective negative and dark energies of humanity that gives births to Horrors and a energy source to feed upon. Through a combination of hatred, sadness, malice, jealousy, and rage, these emotions will concentrate on certain areas of space and objects and travel towards the Makai Realm. Depending on the intensity of the Inga, a person(s) can instantly create an Inga Gate or encourage an object to be possessed by a Horror. Even if there's enough Inga to create a gate, the horror doesn't always come out immediately. There are times when the horror remains dormant for years before it comes out to possess or devour a person. However, Inga isn't just limited to horrors as a food source.

Makai Dragons also feed on Inga energy but it's unclear how much of it can they absorb. Their Dragon Knight partners can accumulate Inga while battling horrors and can experience excruciating pain to remove it. Dragons are known to help purify a dragon knight but it's unclear is this absorption process similar to the Barg or a food source. There are other creatures that exist within the Makai Realm but it's unclear do they all treat Inga as a food source. Ultimately, Inga is the reason why the Makai Order's fight is eternal. So long as there are humans that produce Inga, there will always be Horrors preying on humanity.

Horror Blade[]

When a Makai Knight slays a Horror, the process seals its Inga along with essence of said Horror into his blade. The mixture of both is Horror Blade that must be extracted from the Makai Blade before being returned to Makai Realm through Forced Repatriation ritual. If not, the blade will potentially reform into its Horror form with or without assimilating a new host in place of original one.

Dark Metal[]

As confirmed in VR-verse, Inga can also be process into Dark Metal, Soul Metal's dark counterpart. Because of the alloy's Inga composition being negative emotions that free of Horror essence unlike Horror Blade, Dark Metal can be utilized as core material to forge weapons and armor of terrible power. Despite the danger it pose, Monastery, the corrupt branch of Makai Order, was implied to secretly gather the alloy through its controversial ritualistic five-round competition to graduate Makai Knights under their wing, though one of their own, Azami Kadō, had similar idea in mind albeit with more sinister purpose; to avenge the darkness her father, the last Golden Knight Garo, defeated and continue what it had started.
