Magic Clothing (魔法衣, Mahōi) are special attire worn by Makai practitioners.
Overview[]
Original Universe[]
Mahōi is a form of clothing knights and priests wear. It's a form of cultural clothing style that helps identify people of the Makai Order. The threads aren't just for fashion, most of them are imbued or enchanted with protective magics against the darkness. Parts of their fashion, such as their beads and stone pieces attached to their clothing, are madōgu (magical tools). These accessories can vary from enchanted tracking jewelry, protective charms, explosive devices, and even summoning tools. Magical clothing is a choice, both knights and priests can wear whatever they want but many choose to wear them for cultural identity and protection. Their second most popular style of clothing is black and dark leather. Traditional priests tend to wear tribal-style clothing or leather, often adorned with beads and necklaces. With knights, they often wear a leather duster or black jacket. The titled knights often wear a duster with a special insignia (ex: Garo and Zero) to identify their association with their pedigree and armor; not many can tell and civilians presume it's goth-style fashion. As an added layer of protection, certain knights will include a protective vest, designed to help protect a user from physical harm, magical attacks and/or repel dark energies.
Ryūga-verse[]
The mahōi of Ryūga's world have strong similarities to the original universe. However, in addition to all the descriptions, certain clothes can transform into alternative clothing for stealth and infiltration.
Anime Universe[]
The entirety of the animated series are united to a single universe but organized into three different eras of time. While clothing plays an important role in the other universes, the anime series suggests there's nothing magical about them. It's presumed the clothing is merely fashion.
In the events of Crimson Moon (ancient Japan era), a form of mahōi was worn by the Makai Priests/Alchemists. The priestesses wore a particular azure leather cat suit, but the knights have the option of wearing the classic duster or regular clothes. The leather clothing seems to be a fashion choice for combat as its only revealed in battle but cloaked in front of civilians.
In the European setting (medieval era) of The Carved Seal of Flames, knights are also free to wear whatever they want; they often used a duster, jacket or cloak as part of their fashion. For both knights and alchemists, it's not uncommon to find someone from the order wearing white-beige clothing with golden patterns as part of their attire. While they do have magical tools, none of it is attached to their clothing.
In the modern times of Vanishing Line, members of the Makai Order are free to wear whatever they want but it's not uncommon to catch an alchemist or knight wearing a duster or jacket. However, there are makai villages that are home to alchemists that wear tribal clothing to show their affiliations. It seems that in all three time eras, their clothes are merely a fashion statement and no special abilities.
VR-verse[]
In the Versus Road universe, priests are known to wear a form of mahōi but it's unclear does it have any magical abilities. The clothing they wear are a mixture of village-style clothing and ceremonial garbs with pendants; there's no proof if there's any special abilities other than cultural fashion.

- Among enchantments placed on Magic Clothing — ones worn by Makai Knights in particular — was apparently one devised to protect the wearer from exposure to even smallest amount of Horror blood owing to the common knowledge among protectors employed by Makai Order that direct contact would result the victim to die an agonizing death 100 days after the exposure. This makes sense, as many Knights are seen frequently combat Horrors with their Makai Blades and that there are always chances of them splattered with Horror blood even with said Blades' ability to burn flesh upon contact owing to their Soul Metal composition, which didn't help by the Order usually mindful with Barankas Fruits in its disposal (Kouga had to go to Crimson Forest just to procure some [1]) and sole known purification ritual via. Madō Flames on those who tainted by Horror blood is noted to be risky due to agonizing to the victim as much as it taxing for the Priest involved[2].
