Mutsugi (ムツギ) is a fallen Makai Priestess in the events of Heir to Steel Armor within the Ryūga-verse. She was originally Koyori's mentor and partner to Godou Shirahane; up until her descend into darkness, she led the coven in Creacity.[1]

Personality[]

Mutsugi is a priestess and partner to Godou Shirahane (Luminous Slash Knight Zango) at Creacity; she's also Koyori's teacher. A wise and experienced priestess, she protected civilians against horrors for many years until she had a personal crisis in her faith in humanity. A person she rescued from horrors revealed to be a serial killer who ended up killing several people and she carried the guilt over what happened. Mutsugi realizes that so long as there's inga (grudge or dark negative energy), Horrors will always be a threat and humanity will never learn their lesson(s) to change things for the better. Because of this, she sought a means to get rid of the darkness and discovered the Forbidden Fruit. A fruit that supposedly gives whoever consumes it with omniscience and omnipotence. She was convinced that if she can obtain the forbidden fruit, she can rid the world of darkness.

When Godou rediscovered the Gate of Destruction, the corruptive influence of the Seducer convinced her that the very fruit she was searching for is behind the gate. Mutsugi is convinced once she opens the gate, she can obtain the godly powers of the fruit to end humanity's malice. However, opening it would unleash great darkness. Driven by madness and desperation, Mutsugi managed to open the gateway, but it was sealed by Godou sacrificing himself with his armor. To access the gate would mean she would need to manipulate a knight to help unseal the gate. No longer a person of reason, she has lied, manipulated, and misdirected members of the Order to succeed her plans.

Despite claiming to have good intentions to help humanity, she viewed the people that died for her scheme a necessary sacrifice for the greater good. She manipulated the dark miasma to corrupt Souma into her thrall and admitted playing a part in Godou's death. With victory at hand, Mutsugi let go of her facade and embraced the dark side of her personality, not realizing she has been manipulated and corrupted by the Seducer. After devouring the Forbidden Fruit, Mutsugi falsely believed she has become a goddess and that she achieve her dream of a inga-free world. Unfortunately, it was her own self-delusion.

Overwhelmed with power, Mutsugi over-confidently believed she has become a god and unstoppable. However, with combined efforts of Ryūga, Souma, and Koyori, Mutsugi was defeated in battle. Mortally wounded and desperate to justify her cause, Mutsugi would unfortunately realized the truth when the Seducer admitted to manipulating her to help free her. With Mutsugi's body and will broken, devouring the fruit made her a viable host for the horror. The Seducer claimed Mutsugi's body and gave the fruit a physical body. However, the horror was defeated by Garo. After all horrors were defeated, Mutsugi's spirit appeared to show she's happy to know things ended well. Overall, Mutsugi was a person that wanted to save the world but allowed her desperation create tragic results.

Trivia[]

  • The fact that she has two masked bodyguards similar to Ryūme indicated her to be on the same rank as the latter at best.
  • Mutsugi serves as the foil to Tousei Kaneshiro. Both are masterminds who responsible for both parental issues in major Makai Knights (Ryūga Dōgai for Tousei and Souma Shirahane for Mutsugi) and crisis in futuristic city in the middle of nowhere they lived at (Volcity for Tousei and Creacity for Mutsugi). Both even transformed into a Horror who subsequently defeated at the conclusion of their respective series.
    • Unlike the latter who lacked combat abilities and therefore must rely on Madō Horrors in addition of assimilated by random Inga Horrors, Mutsugi is a highly experienced Makai Priestess who able to fend seasoned Makai Knights on her own and became a high-tier Horror from her assimilation by Forbidden Fruit thus more dangerous.
  • Mutsugi is similar to Agō in that their desire to establish a world without Inga warped by a tragedy which pushed them to a dark path (Agō lost his beloved creator during an epic battle against Horrors while Mutsugi unwittingly saved the life of a serial killer). It helped by their endgame revolves meddling with something dangerous from Makai Realm only for it horribly backfired (Agō attempted to weaponize the surviving body part of Degol only to become the host of the resurrected legendary high-tier Horror while Mutsugi's consumption of Forbidden Fruit saw her assimilated by the entity which happened to be part of its very being).
    • It's possible that for the same reason, Ryūga found Mutsugi reminded him to Agō hence his initial attempt to reason with her to begin with.
