Realize (悟, Satoru) is the fifth episode of GARO: Heir to Steel Armor.
Synopsis[]
An office building that has turned into a hive of countless Horrors as employees are possessed one by one. Ryuga Dougai, Koyori, Mutsugi, and the Three Swordsmen of Agora gather to address the unusual situation. Do not let the Horrors get out. It was Ryuga who stopped Mutsugi, who was about to place a ward on the building under the direction of Igusu. "We can't leave him out of the loop right now. This city needs Souma!" What decision does Souma Shirahane, who is struggling alone, make?[1]
Summary[]
Picking up where the previous episode left off, Souma unsheathes his Hagane Sword a bit, having seemingly come up with a decision. At Kazamatsuri's office, those who were not assimilated by Horrors are in mortal peril; the Swordsmen of Agora trio (Igusu, Ron, and Obi) arrive in time to swiftly cut down three assimilated office staff before they could devour their still-human female co-worker, allowing her to escape unharmed. Ryūga, Mutsugi, and Koyori catch up soon after, prompting Igusu to inform them that the Horrors likely came from upstairs. Ryūga suggests to find the Inga Gate from where they came from and exterminate every single one of the Horrors in the building at the same time — a tedious task they have no choice but to carry out. Since they cannot afford to let any of Horrors inside escaping, Igusu instructs Mutsugi to erect a barrier over the building. But Ryūga interrupts her as Souma is likely catching up with them and therefore not a lost cause yet, going so far positioning himself as their last line of defense until then. As much as Igusu wanted to oppose it, inhuman roars echo throughout the building followed by more Horrors pouring out, leaving him no choice but to agree with the wiser Golden Knight. Mutsugi follows in suit all while informing them that she will erect the barrier if all else fails. Igusu and Ron go upstairs while Obi joins Ryūga, Koyori, and Mutsugi stay behind in keeping the incoming horde at bay as per the Golden Knight's instructions.
As Igusu and Ron face off against another group of Horrors, Ryūga, Koyori, Mutsugi, and Obi easily dispatch the first horde which thankfully a small fray. Confident that they still maintain the control of their situation, Ryūga instructs Koyori and Obi to catch up with their comrades upstairs. As they do, Mutsugi informs Koyori to retreat should things go out of hand. It is when Ryūga confesses to Mutsugi that Souma's talent is not inferior than his father's.
Back to Souma, he sheathes his sword with determination burning in his eyes, having made up his mind at last.
Meeting Igusu and Ron who just cut down their next Horror horde, Koyori and Obi tell them to move on in their search as they able to take care of the floor the four are in on the former two's behalf. With that, Igusu and Ron make haste leaving the two doing their part also. At a nearby restroom, Obi and Koyori stumble upon a survivor they promptly and successfully escort back to the entrance just as Mutsugi considers to erect the barrier already. However, the Horror horde they successfully overcame in the process soon catch up with the group, prompting Ryūga to order Obi to bring the survivor to a safer location as he, Koyori, and Mutsugi deal the threat.
It doesn't take long for Ryūga, Koyori, and Mutsugi to be overwhelmed by the Horror horde but, they thankfully manage to buy enough time for Souma to arrive. After saving Koyori from one of attacking Horrors, the determined Souma tells Ryūga that he's now truly ready to carry out his duty as should. With Souma and later Obi in their side, they fend off the next horde while Mutsugi conjures a barrier to isolate the whole building. Ryūga's faith in Souma isn't misplaced as unlike before, the latter demonstrates remarkable teamwork with their allies despite used to work alone for a while, more so with the Golden Knight trusts him in dealing the entrance alongside Koyori and Mutsugi.
Returning to the office's entrance, Ron and Igusu inform Mutsugi about their tough luck in dealing Horrors upstairs and shocked to see Souma's arrival. Despite his misgivings, Ron is willing to hear out the young title-less Knight's idea and absolve him of his blunders should it work in their favor.
Upstairs, Zaruba remarks to Ryūga how Parfum of Darkness in the office is much stronger than during their arrival at Creacity, prompting the Golden Knight to make haste for the source of the attack and cut down Horrors who stand in his path along the way.
Souma lures another Horror horde into Koyori's portal, sending them into a room Swordsmen of Agora trio prepared as their chosen battlefield in the process. Such part of Souma's plan works a bit too well because both Ron and even Souma himself found the displaced horde a bit bigger than intended, though Koyori expresses her confidence in Swordsmen of Agora trio's capabilities. Agreeing with her statement, the two send the next Horror horde who arrive sooner than expected into an empty bathroom closet since Igusu, Ron, and Obi still fight theirs at the moment. Igusu rallies his comrades to fight harder lest they won't keep up with Souma's might. Ron is impressed by Obi's resolve as the latter affirms his newly recovered leg should be the least of his worries as they ready for another horde. Back to Souma and Koyori, they brought a much bigger horde into a huge office room and hold the line until the last of them enter. Swordsmen of Agora trio's battle culminates to them donning their respective silver Hagane Armor which identical to Souma's albeit differentiated by the color of eyes and chest orb (Igusu red, Ron green, and Obi yellow) before performing a Blazing Armament combination technique where Ron and Obi deliver their respective Madō Fire blast to Igusu who condenses it into a sphere which he detonates into a shower of multicolor fireballs all over the room, decimating the remaining Horrors. Seemingly overwhelmed at first, Souma and Koyori turn the tables upon certain the lasts of their enemies have entered, leading the latter to cast a flash bang-like spell to momentarily blind them thus creating an opening for the two to escape. For a good measure, Souma seeming goads the Horrors to chase them again only for Mutsugi to step in and erect a barrier to lock them all.
Ryūga cautiously enters a meeting room which Zaruba deems suspicious, the same one where Kazamatsuri corrupts his staff into Horrors. The Golden Knight sees nothing out of ordinary apart from its state of disarray when the telephone at Kazamatsuri's desk rings. Cautiously answering it, Ryūga hears someone's voice among static noise from the phone before it falls silent. He had to worry about it later because, as Zaruba warns, the phone IS the active Inga Gate from which Parfum of Darkness that corrupted the entire building emanates all along. Just then, Kazamatsuri enters and demands more money in Makai Language before attacks, fiery purple dark energies coating his hands. Assuming a combat stance in conjunction of his ESP to read his opponent's movements, Ryūga anticipates the latter's incoming assault by charging forward and delivering a killing blow before he could land his, putting an end to Kazamatsuri's suffering. With his death, his corrupted co-workers evaporate into nothingness as the sun rises.
Ryūga neutralizes the corrupted telephone, rendering it harmless once more. The episode ends with the voice from the phone which left him speechless: It was someone who expressed their intention to enter Sekigan Forest as soon as it is accessible during Night of Dawn...
