Zaruba tells Kouga that it is time as he walks through the forest. Realizing that he is being stalked, Kouga prepares to draw his blade, only to discover Priest Amon behind him, holding a spider, claiming that Kouga owes him.

Gonza brings Kaoru a meal as she asks where Kouga is. Gonza explains that Kouga went to visit Amon in order to keep a promise. Gonza also explains how Makai Priests create Madōgu and support Makai Knights from the shadows. He goes on to explain how well respected Amon is and how he was friends with Taiga Saejima.

Kouga apologizes to Amon for not keeping in touch as Amon asks how Zaruba as been. Amon mentions how it is the first night in ten years that there has been a lapse in Inga and that no Inga Gates will open. He advises that Kouga takes it easy. As Amon repairs the Madō Lighter, Kouga states how he has not done as much as his father. Kouga asks why Amon summoned him, to which Amon asks him to fulfil a promise made twenty years ago, while leading him to a bar chess board. Amon mentions how he was playing a game of bar chess with Taiga Saejima twenty years ago, that they didn't finish and how he and Taiga were waiting for another opportunity to finish the game.

Gonza explains to Kaoru the bar chess is the Makai version of regular chess. He explains how life force is put into all of the pieces and once all of the opponents pieces are destroyed, the one with remaining pieces wins the game. He states how it is the finest Makai Knights who can control bar chess pieces.

Kouga confirms that Amon wants him to continue playing on behalf of his father. Amon tells him not to be so formal as he pours red sake for the two of them. Kouga states that he doesn't like red sake before they continue the game. Both Kouga and Amon play an aggressive game as Amon states how Kouga plays like his father. As Zaruba gives advice to Kouga, he argues with Amon. Kouga asks the pair to be quiet as Amon asks about Gonza.

As Kouga wonders how he can finish the game, Amon tells him about some battles that will never end, like the battle between the Makai Knights and Horrors. Amon tells Kouga that whomever loses the match will also lose ten years of life. Kouga appears to be more concerned that Amon will die as opposed to his own lifespan. Amon is explaining why he is calm with the idea as his creation of Zaruba is shown, as well as how his disciple, Jabi is now ready. Amon asks about Kaoru. Amon explains how Taiga sacrificed himself because he loved Kouga, and that is why Kouga subconsciously rejects other peoples love. Amon tells Kouga that he loves Kaoru, which Kouga vehemently denies. Kouga comes to the realisation that Kaoru is the reason that he fights. Kouga vows that he will purify Kaoru.

Amon remember Gonza asking him to help find the Barankas Fruits. He mentions that one is rumored to grow in the Crimson Forest. Amon warns Kouga that the Makai Fire is weakening, which could lead to the emergence of a giant horror.

Gonza looks after a sleeping Kaoru.

The conversation turns to Barago as it is mentioned that he may still be alive. Amon shows Kouga a Madō Lighter that recently appeared on a beach, insinuating that Barago killed his father. Kouga asks Amon how he can determine who is his friend and who is his enemy.

Before Kouga can admit defeat in the bar chess game, Amon stops him and tells him to wait and they will resume the game another time. Amon tells Kouga that he is repeating Taigas words. Taigas spirit appears behind Kouga.
