Soul Ruination (心滅, Shinmetsu) is the twenty third episode of the midnight tokusatsu series GARO. This episode features the death of Kodama.
Synopsis[]
The Eastern Watchdogs join with Barago to prepare for the coming of Messiah, merging into GLUM. Despite Kouga's best efforts to protect Kaoru, Barago kidnaps her. The two knights try to rescue her but are stopped by Kodama. Kouga becomes fueled by rage and hatred, determined to get Kaoru back by using the power of darkness, resulting in him losing control of his armor and becoming a Lost Soul Beast.
Summary[]
Barago gives a body to the three Watchdogs, enabling them to join together and become Gulm. Gulm tells Barago to prepare for the ritual.
Kouga and Rei arrive at the base too late and a chair almost falls on them. Zaruba mentions how the Watchdogs are predicting their moves. As they are leaving, Rei finds a vial.
Gonza is speaking to Kaoru as she tries to come up with a last page for the picture book. Karune Ryūzaki arrives at the estate.
The Watchdog of the West orders Rei and Kouga to kill the Eastern Watchdogs and Kiba. At first however, he refused to allow Rei to help, but changed his mind after Kouga changes his mind. Rei shows the watchdog the vial he found, stating that it is a face changing potion that originally belonged to Dōji Suzumura.
Karune Ryūzaki approaches the Saejima Estate. He reveals himself to be Barago as he attack Gonza and kidnaps Kaoru. Kouga rushes back to the house. Gonza tells Kouga that Barago kidnapped Kaoru and that he should chase after them.
As Kouga and Rei intercept Barago, Gulm, Kaoru and Kodama, Barago gets out of the car. He transforms into Kiba and battles Garo and Zero. Barago easily defeats the pair, but doesn't kill them as he would like "something to enjoy" once he has obtained the ultimate power. Barago gets back in the car and continues the journey.
Barago and Gulm arrive at the Gate Room.
Kouga and Rei continue to make their way towards Kaoru. Silva tells Rei that Kouga is blinded by anger. As Zaruba tells Kouga to calm down, they are confronted by Kodama, who Kouga subsequently fights. Kouga and Kodama subsequently transform into Garo and Demon Beast Armor respectfully. Kouga transforms into the Lost Soul Beast as he passes the timer on his armor. Kouga kills Kodama and makes his way towards Kaoru. Zero cancels Kougas armor to save him from the effects of the Lost Soul Beast. Kouga thanks Rei for saving him before they continue their quest to rescue Kaoru.
