Souma Shirahane (白羽 創磨, Shirahane Sōma) is a Makai Knight and the son of Godou Shirahane in Heir to Steel Armor. He is a titleless knight and wields a silver Hagane Makai Armor.[1]
Personality[]
Souma is a young makai knight determined to prove his strength and ability as Creacity’s protector. However, his intense emotions, anger issues, anxieties, and immaturity has made him a liability in both his professional and private life. The son of Godou Shirahane (Kouzan Knight Zango), Souma loved his father and admired his strength. When Godou disappeared 3 years prior to the events of Heir to Steel Armor, Souma has been holding the position as Creacity’s protector until Godou makes his return. Because of this, Souma became territorial, claiming Creacity is his city and other knights shouldn’t interfere in his business, including the Golden Knight. However, because Mutsugi is the senior member who assembled the knights to prepare for the Gate of Destruction; Souma reluctantly follows her lead but is not afraid to antagonize the other knights and egotistically prove he’s a more capable knight. His greatest fear was when he failed to master the Flash Sword Dance and became corrupted by its dark influence. Godou was injured in attempt to restore Souma's consciousness and the event left a mark in his mind; Souma is afraid of executing the technique and losing control. Watching Ryūga Dōgai successfully executing the Flash Sword Dance made him frustrated at himself. Between his sensitivities with his own strength and anger issues, everyone is concerned about his ability to fight against the darkness and his own inner-demons.
But in the end, it was thanks to Ryūga's support Souma finally able to overcome his darkness. When one of his allies revealed themselves to be the mastermind behind the reopening of Gate of Destruction and sought to turn him into their personal thrall, the Golden Knight didn't give up on him, which in turn allowed him to break free of the mastermind's control and overcome his inner darkness at last. Overall, Souma is a talented knight who must overcome his inner demons in order to carry out his duties at its fullest.
History[]
Early Days[]
Very little is known about Souma's past. The identity and fate of Souma's mother is unknown, only that she gave birth to him and wasn't in his life. Souma was primarily raised by his father, Godou Shirahane (Zango), and grew up with Koyori at Creacity as childhood friends. Godou personally trained Souma to become a strong knight, but the full depth of his training is unknown.
Over three years prior main events, Souma has already become a steel knight and wishes to master the Flash Sword Dance technique. Godou couldn't teach Souma the technique due to the fact Souma never mastered his own darkness and teaching him would risk corruption. The worst case scenario came when Souma attempted to master the technique without his father's help and it turned him into a raging berserker. Godou managed to contain Souma, but at the price of a hand injury. By the time Souma awakened, he had no memory of events and would only realize what he did after recovering his memory.
Approximately three years ago, Godou was studying about the Gate of Destruction. In his search, he discovered the location of the gate and vanished without a trace. Unwilling to let another knight take over his father's post, Souma became the primary knight to protect Creacity. He was keeping Godou's seat warm until his father returns. Between his failure to master the Flash Sword Dance and his father's disappearance, Souma developed an inferiority complex. He has become territorial and aggressive towards others, but all would change with the arrival of Garo.
Heir to Steel Armor[]
The the behest of Priestess Mutsugi, Koyori returned to Creacity with Ryūga Dōgai (GARO). While going to meet with Mutsugi, Ryūga engaged combat against the horror Regrege. To lay claim on his territory, Souma put on his armor and slayed Regrege. After winning the battle, Souma went up to Ryūga, making it clear to him that Creacity is his territory and not to interfere before walking off.
Abilities[]
- Makai Knight Training: Souma was personally trained by his father, Godou Shirahane. Because of that, Souma's sword and combat capabilities are above most untitled knights.
- Flash Sword Dance: An advanced instant kill technique belonging to his father, Godou was reluctant to train Souma because he hasn't learn to overcome his darkness; it would make Souma susceptible to corruption. Despite that, Souma already grasped the basic concept of how to execute the technique on his own. Unfortunately, when he tried to master the technique alone, the darkness overtaken him and Godou had to save him. After that incident though, Souma developed anxiety over the matter and never used it again. During the final events involving the Gate of Destruction, Souma managed to overcome his darkness and learned to convert his darkness into light. He managed to successfully execute the technique to end the horror threat.

- Hagane: As a titleless Makai Knight, Souma has the ability to don Hagane Armor.
- Hagane Sword: A Makai Blade linked to his Hagane armor.
- Iruva: Godou's magical ring, it's also the last remnant and connection to the Zango armor. Souma is the future heir to Zango, but the armor was destroyed in the final events facing the Gate of Destruction. Souma was able to recover his father's ring and keeps it as his legacy; he will never become Light Slash Knight Zango.
